1. Who we are
Be Prepared ("we", "us") is a free emergency preparedness web app operated by G.SOFRONIOU WEBZONE-CY LTD, a company registered in the Republic of Cyprus (webzone-cy.com), which is the data controller. For any privacy question or request, contact us through our info@webzone-cy.com.
This policy is written to meet the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Cyprus Law 125(I)/2018, the ePrivacy rules, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).
2. The short version
- No account, no sign-up, no ads, no selling or sharing of personal data.
- Your checklists, calculator values, wallet card, language and text size are saved only in your browser's local storage. We cannot see them.
- We use privacy-friendly, cookieless visit statistics.
- The live map fetches public data; when you use it, your browser or our relay requests data for the area you view.
3. Data stored on your device
| What | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Checklist ticks, calculator inputs | Remember your progress | Your device only |
| Wallet card (contacts, medical notes) | Show and print your card | Your device only |
| Language, text size | Preferences | Your device only |
| App files and recent map data (cache) | Work offline | Your device only |
You can delete it at any time with the in-app Reset and Clear buttons, or by clearing site data in your browser.
4. Data processed when you are online
- Hosting. Our host, Vercel Inc., processes standard technical data (IP address, browser type, time of request) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. These logs are short-lived.
- Visit statistics (only with your consent). If you accept analytics, Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without storing IP addresses; visitors are identified only by a hash that changes daily. We see aggregate numbers only (pages, countries, devices).
- Live map. To show weather, hazards and warnings, the map requests data from public sources (see credits), sometimes through our own relay. These requests include the map area or approximate coordinates you are viewing, but nothing that identifies you. Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap.
- Climate guess. To preselect a climate in the stockpile calculator, the app asks our server for the approximate country and latitude that our host derives from your IP address. It is used once, on your device, and not stored or logged by us. Choosing a climate yourself stops this.
- Email. If you email us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply. We delete them within 12 months unless needed for a legal claim. Basis: our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Your location. Only if you press My location, your browser asks your permission and gives the position to the app on your device to centre the map and fetch local weather. We do not store it.
5. Legal bases
Hosting, security and local storage needed to run the app: our legitimate interest and strict necessity (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Location: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw in your browser settings. Analytics: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time through Cookie settings.
6. International transfers
Vercel may process data in the United States. Transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. Retention
Data on your device stays until you delete it. Hosting logs and analytics are kept by Vercel for a limited period according to its own policies; we do not keep any other records.
8. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Because we hold no data that identifies you, most requests are handled by clearing your browser data. You can also complain to your local data protection authority (in Cyprus: the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, dataprotection.gov.cy). California residents: we do not sell or share personal information.
9. Children
The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children under 16.
10. Changes
We will update this page if anything changes and show the new date at the top.
