What is Be Prepared

About the guide

A free, plain-language emergency guide that keeps working when the internet doesn't.

What it is

Be Prepared is a free emergency preparedness guide that runs in your browser and can be installed on your phone or computer. Once opened, it is stored on your device and keeps working without internet, during power cuts, network outages and evacuations. It is written in clear, simple steps and is available in 25 languages.

It is a starting point for getting ready, not a replacement for official instructions. In a real emergency, always follow your local authorities and call your emergency number first.

Works offline

Installs like an app. Everything except live map data is available with no signal.

How to install it for offline use

Open it once while online so every page and language is saved. After that, it updates itself quietly when you are connected.

Where the advice comes from

The guidance is based on public advice from the Red Cross and Red Crescent, the World Health Organization and national civil-protection agencies, rewritten in plain language. Live map data comes from public agencies listed on the Sources & credits page.
